MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Facts alone rarely inspire action. That’s why PRSA Memphis presents “Story Lab: The Strategy of Storytelling,” a half-day professional development workshop on September 30, 2025, aimed at helping communicators craft narratives that captivate audiences and drive results.

“Storytelling is more than a creative exercise. It’s a strategic tool for communicators,” said Elizabeth Yoste Whittington, APR, PRSA Memphis president. “We designed Story Lab to equip Mid-South PR professionals with the skills to not only tell a great story, but to align that story with organizational goals for strategic impact.”

At Story Lab, attendees will learn how to uncover authentic stories within their organizations and deliver them in a way that resonates with their audiences. The interactive workshop will feature two distinguished speakers and facilitators:

Jason Carlton, APR – Marketing Manager at Intermountain Health (Salt Lake City, Utah). Carlton will present “Unlocking the Magic of Storytelling,” exploring the art and science of strategic storytelling across different channels. Carlton brings 15-plus years of experience in healthcare communication and social media management, and currently oversees marketing for major health initiatives. He will share how tapping into human emotions and a structured narrative approach can break through audience fatigue and build trust.

Donny Granger – Founder and CEO of Creation Studios (Memphis, Tenn.). Granger will lead a hands-on session, “Building a ‘Story-First’ Framework,” guiding participants through crafting a punchy, emotionally engaging elevator pitch and extending it into compelling content. With 25 years of experience helping major brands both in Memphis and internationally tell stories that move people, Granger will coach attendees on sharpening their message and designing customer journeys that convert engagement into action.

The workshop runs opens with a networking lunch at noon, followed by the interactive sessions from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Youth Villages Operations Center (3320 Brother Blvd, Memphis). In addition to the sessions, PRSA Memphis invites participants to stay for a casual “Story Lab Debrief” networking happy hour immediately after the workshop. “After an afternoon of ideas, we’ll unwind and continue the conversation at Soul Fish Cafe because every good story deserves to be followed a great discussion,” said Whittington.

Who Should Attend: The program is open to communications professionals, marketers, nonprofit and business leaders, and students – anyone looking to elevate their storytelling abilities. “Whether you’re crafting a PR campaign, a brand message or an internal memo, this workshop will sharpen your ability to connect with your audience on a human level,” said Kimberly Rossie, APR, PRSA Memphis Professional Development chair. “Our speakers will demonstrate how strategic storytelling isn’t just buzzworthy, it’s indispensable in today’s communication industry.”

Registration: Advance registration is required. Tickets are $75 for PRSA members and $100 for non-members, with a limited number of group packages available for teams. Students are welcome and can inquire about special rates. Register online by September 29.
